Brush Stroke Paintings 2009-2011
In February 2009 I experienced a life-changing event, a
hemorrhagic stroke. After an eleven-day
stay at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester I began the journey toward recovery.
Painting has become a necessary part of the journey
encompassing therapy, expression and passion.
The paintings in this selection have all been done since that time.
Life is not static.
It is full of surprises…joy, sorrow, love and pain. The one constant in my life has been
Art. Whatever situation life has
presented I have always felt a need to create.
Bold complimentary color provides storytelling, whimsy and
words a palette to convey the experience I have lived these past months.
Much of the work is acrylic on paper used in a flowing
watercolor manner. I have also worked in mixed media, combining techniques of
scumbling, medium transfer, and collage.
